Why are there two version of the same app?

Early Development

During early development of mobile applications for smartphones and tablets, many companies like Android and Apple were still defining the process of creation, development, distribution and financial configuration of apps.

For this reason app developers needed to create 4 version of their apps:

A Free Version of the app for iPhone was created as a way for potential buyers to test drive the apps, get to see some of their features and make a decision of whether or not the app was worth being purchased.

A Paid Version of the app for iPhone was also created for those potential buyers who had first checked the free version and then decided to purchase the full version.

Free Version of the app for iPad was created as a way for potential buyers to test drive the apps for iPad, get to see some of their features and make a decision of whether or not the app was worth being purchased. These apps were completely separated from the iPhone and needed to be purchased separately.

Paid Version of the app for iPad was also created for those potential buyers who had first checked the free version and then decided to purchase the full version. These apps were completely separated from the iPhone and needed to be purchased separately.

Once a buyer had made the decision to purchase the app, they could simply delete the free version and then keep the paid version of the app.

What this means is that during the early years of app development, every company who would develop apps for smartphones and tablets will always create two or four version of the same app, the free version for trials and the full paid version for it to be purchased by the users.

This is the reason why Ipnos Software has four versions of Relax Melodies and Relax Melodies Oriental. The company has been developing applications since 2009 and evolving parallel to the evolution of the app store.

In-App Purchases

When apple and other app store companies introduce the concept of in-app purchases, the need to create two apps (free and paid) for the same app became unnecessary and thus developers were now able to create a single app with locked features and the option to unlock the feature by simply making an in-app purchase.

Ipnos Soft had already a large number of users and many of the users were only making use of the free version of the app.

For this reason, Ipnos Soft introduced in-app purchases in both versions (free and paid) so that users who had only downloaded the free version, had the opportunity to upgrade their version to a full access version. And users who bought the paid version would also be able to enjoy the new updates and new content being added to the app.

As of today, when a user downloads the free version of the app and then makes an In-app purchase, the free version becomes a paid (or premium) version and it provides the user the same access as a user who bought the paid version in the first place.

To put it in different words, both apps become the same app once a user makes an upgrade of the free version through an in-app purchase.

In addition, Ipnos Soft introduced additional content like Guided Meditations and Courses, these are additional features that even users with the paid version of the app need to purchase separately or gain access through a Lifetime Access purchase.

The Unlimited or Lifetime access option gives the user access to all of the features and content of the app, and it also grants access to the Guided Meditations and courses.

In addition, users with Lifetime Access will continue to have full access to the full features of the app, no matter how many updates and additional content gets added to the app.

Ipnos Soft is constantly adding new things like  More sounds, More Brainwaves, More Guided Meditations and More courses.
